The first mesh panels have already been installed, and work on the world’s biggest media façade is running at top speed. In the next few months the former Bayer corporate headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany, will be clad with 18,000 square metres of the woven stainless steel meshes Mediamesh® and Illumesh®. The façade will go into operation in autumn, when 5.6 million LEDs integrated into the mesh will light up and be visible for miles. The two mesh systems are a joint production of the mediatecture company ag4 media facade GmbH, which assumed the role of general contractor in this project, and the world’s leading manufacturer of woven metal meshes, GKD – Gebr. Kufferath AG.
The media façade on the Bayer office tower in Leverkusen sets new standards in all respects. Everyone can follow the daily progress of the transformation of what was once Germany’s tallest skyscraper into the world’s biggest media façade. The metal mesh for the project was woven at the GKD works in Dueren using 1,900 km of stainless steel wire. This is about 35 times the distance from Dueren to Leverkusen.
